Senior

Röyksopp general discussion.

Maybe we've reached a conclusion on the vocals/no vocals on Senior:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd7fR6vLIIs

Svein says it's "next to no vocals" on Senior, and reveals himself as a Pixies-fan. Interestingly enough he also says Senior is an album for those who likes to sit down and actually listen and work with the music. An judging his haircut this interview is pretty recent.

They've made another track with Robyn! For Senior maybe? I think it will be on Senior since the timeline fits perfect:

They travel to Sweden > Make music > Come home >They announce Senior 100% done

^ My guess is it's a track for Robyn's new album. She's mentioned before they were going to collaborate with her on her next album. In one of her 'Tweets' she described it as "norswedian bärs-artig-mash up shiiieeet"...hm...sounds interesting.

Good to hear Röyksopp and Robyn are collaborating again. I hope the outcome will be as good as "The Girl and The Robot", my #1 favourite song of 2010.

Also, Röyksopp are now 'cleaning up their archives' and giving away stuff as free downloads. First one being the instrumental version of "Vision One". Good, but I really hope this doesn't indicate a delay in the release of Senior. It's still remarkably silent regarding Senior.

I don't think those free downloads will be the reason for any delay. I rather think you should see it as great and interesting waiting tones, as opposite to those in customer service telephones. Im actually quite excited about what they will dig up next.

^ I'm quite anxious to see what they dig up in the next few months as well. Maybe we'll finally get to hear those Beatservice demos someday. Regarding Senior, they mentioned sometime in April for the release. This is the first time they've given anything specific for dates. I wouldn't be too worried for any more delays.

They mentioned it on one of their recent journal entries..."We do not know the exact release date yet, but we hope to get it out some time in April this year..." My guess is they wouldn't have mentioned anything about April if the plan wasn't to release it then...barring any unforeseen problems, I suppose.

Just to add fire to the rumor mill, I've been reading in a few blogs that Röyksopp and Kelis have been working together. Has anyone else heard this?

Well, about the song they have produced for Robyn; it is for her first album (out of 3 coming out this year). The song's name is "None of Dem", and according to Robyn, the sound is like something Timbaland would have produced. She said she took the material from them before they even had the chance to make something Röyksopp-bombastic of it ;D

Kelis is recording her upcoming studio album, she's also working with La Roux.
So I guess her collaboration with Royskopp is for the same reason.

Personally I don't think it suitable to add Kelis's singing in Senior, especially Senior is an introspective & quite album.
Hope that collaboration is only for herself....

Yesterday, Robyn was on the swedish tv show "Dom Kallar oss artister" (They call us artists).
A show featuring swedish artists in their daily life, and in the last episode for the season, it was Robyn's turn. And she met up with Röyksopp (:

Here's The whole episode, but if you're just interested in Torbjörn and Svein, skip to like 13:00 min. Quite funny, and even if they don't want to have the production team in the studio, they actually let us hear a sample of "None of Them":

Sounds... deep!

The silence surrouning Senior is getting uncomfortable. It's been more than a year since the release of Junior now; and still no date for Senior. :(

Röyksopp themselves said on their website that the release date is still to be chosen, but definitely it'll be sometime next April :)

They didn't say definitely, they said they hoped. There's a difference. ;)
Unless you meant April 2011, and not next month. xD I'm quite prepared to bet that it won't be coming out at all next month.

I'm pretty sure Röyksopp's productivity is not the problem here. I think the material for Senior was already finished ages ago and some of the pre and post concert music surrounding their gig sounded a bit TOO much like Röyksopp to my ears.

The delay is probably due to label tactics. Perhaps they want to combine the release of Senior with Röyksopp doing some summer or festival dates. Labels can delay albums forever. In fact, Chicane once recorded an album that leaked on internet before its release. As a result, the label ended up NOT releasing that album (Easy To Assemble) at all.

Yes, Röyksopp are currently in studio making their fifth album. The source is an article from norwegian newspaper VG. Unfortunately I can't direct link the article since it was only released in the paper version.

They also describe Senior as a "dirty" instrumental album inspered by Brian Eno. Woah!

Brian Eno influence!

That is good news, hopefully Royksopp will embrace that theme. 'Dead to the World' is one of my favourite tracks and that was very inspired by a certain Brian Eno track. I read somewhere that Royksopp described 'Dead to the World' as a tribute to their idols or something along those lines.
